The Japanese phrase "眼光紙背に徹す Gankō shihai ni tessu", means to deconstruct the hidden meaning behind words.
Yumi Goto has met countless artists and observed their work, but has often felt caught up in the superficial and has not found the true essence. In this masterclass, Goto will work with participants to discover and explore the true meaning of their work and the project to bring it to completion.

Through individual and group discussion and critique, participants will develop the skills to examine the strengths of their ideas and intentions and conceptualize a coherent project, ultimately resulting in their own work of art.

- Participants will bring one (or more) project(s) they would like to work on. We will examine, deconstruct, and edit these ideas to see which ones are viable. The instructor and participants will engage in a friendly competition to push their limits and explore new avenues of creating artworks. In the second half of t he masterclass, we will focus on presenting the finished works. This masterclass aims to provide the participant with new tools and ideas for working on current and future projects.

One participant will be selected and granted an exhibition at Reminders Photography Stronghold Gallety in Tokyo or its Kyoto branch PAPEROLES.

Deadline for application is Wednesday, September 1st. Payment of the fee is due on Wednesday, September 8th. All applications finalize with payment confirmation.

Confirmed participants will schedule online group meeting with Goto and all other participants in advance of the masterclass

*This masterclass will be cancelled in case of the scheduled dates coioncide with State of Emergency issued by Kyoto Prefectural and/or City government, as well as new infections detected among venue staff. In such event, the fee will be fully refunded.
